Not sure if that will fix it or not but I remember seein in the instal instructions of the finder in big writing to not run it on the same battery as a trolling motor. Trollin motors generate alot of interference I guess. Both me and my partner have ours running on the crankin batteries and the auto pilot trollin motor is on a battery by itself.

Mine is on the cranking battery no where near the trolling motor and it still jumps at low speeds. I do have a master power switch and an on board battery charger, I wonder if current is working it's way through the system somehow?

internal antennas aren't as good as the external.
    Which do you have?

I have been running my 797 at .5 and slower and getting accurate readings. I have my unit hooked into the cranking battery. It has an internal antenna.

I have an external antenna on my 797 and have no issues with the GPS readings. I normally troll/drift slowly while walleye fishing, staying about .7 -.9 MPH at times and never had an issue of not getting a reading. The readings are accurate enough for the fishing I do and for me to follow/mark items on the unit.

Maybe I don't expect as much accuracy out of my unit? I'm completely happy with my 797.

I can lay a tray of jig heads right next to or leaning on mine and the speed/location will jump around some. You've probably already tried this but I would try running it on a seperate battery where the fish finder is the only device on the battery. Something on ya boat is causing this.

Whys the garmin work and not the bird? They're two different devices made two totally separate ways so what affects one will not always affect another.
Both units PCB's are made in China and probably made by the same company using child labor. I got both type units. Both say made in China.

Experts say above 2mph for accuracy. Program algorithms just hoaxing folks.
