what works for one doesn't always work for another. That is the good thing about this crappie fishing thing. Not every fish likes the same thing, and either does every fisherman. Some people swear buy live bait...i think it is a hassle and swear by jigs tipped with niblets. TO EACH THEIR OWN! It it works, you bring your fish to fish fry and I'll bring mine!

I have never done this but my thoughts are heating the hook or jig lightly and the hollow tube wouls melt quick and dry hard to it faster. I could be wrong, would not be the first time.
I will be sure to leave my PM box full so I donot get the PM's if I am wrong.:D

I can see that working pretty good with a solid body tube, but I took it that NightProwler was talking about melting the head of the tube to the lead of the jig ... which would work OK with a solid body tube, but might be a little dicey with a hollow tube. (sorry, he didn't mention which type tube he was using ... and I was just interjecting my own problems) Heck ... everytime I'm fishing, it's windy, and I have enough trouble trying to light my cig :p I can just imagine the burns and melted tube stains I'd get, trying to melt a 1.5" tube onto a 1/16oz jighead :D ( I had some problems with SuperGlue, and it comes with a spout :p ... don't have the steadiest hands in the East :D )

It take about one or two seconds for the plastic to soften (melt might of been a little dramatic). I have the hollow tube about a 1/4" from the head. Bic lighter flame put to the gap (between the tube and jighead) for minimal time (no hot dripping plastic), then push them together. As for the smell, ever smelled cyanoacrylate (super glue)? This might not be the best method for everybody.

I'm not doubting that your system works. I can be just a little "fumble fingered", sometimes :p
And, I doubt that the smell of "Bic softened" plastic, or SuperGlue, is going to stop a fish from hitting the bait ... if it really wants it Just consider what "smells" (ie - tastes) a Crappie is subjected to, when people are putting Vanilla, Castor oil, Anise, Garlic, etc on their baits :D

I do know that people have used a flame, to melt a torn plastic body back together, and still caught fish with it ... so there goes the theory of the "melted plastic smell" being a negative factor. And I've caught fish on Superglued jigs, before the glue was completely dried ... so there goes the theory on that smell/taste being a negative :D
