I almost always use some combination of chartreuse, usually with black or red or by itself. I'm not sure if it really outfishes other colors, but I believe in it enough that in tough situations, I always reach for something with chartreuse. My only explanation as to why it seems to outdo other colors is that it is visible in so many water conditions. I will use chart/black or chart/red in stained to muddy water and catch fish, or in clear I use chart/black or straight chartreuse and it catches fish. Some colors are just too bright for clear or not visible in muddy. Just a theory. To throw a wrench in that idea though, my dad will throw yellow almost all the time, and usually outfishes me with it.....so who knows.

You know this thread has me thinking too. I know the bass on a bright sunny day in the mid day love a strawberry soft plastic worm, I have never really put that color to test on crappie, have any of you?
Inquiring minds want to know, LOL,

Just a note to help Fin's feelings. I keep purple jigs tied for one lake that we fish. We went to that lake today and the only fish that we caught were on purple jigs. Chartreuse is my favorite color and I tried it today with no luck.
Like the other post said, chartruese works because it's a natural fish color. Crappie sometimes look chartruese and so do channel cats. So do some other fish.

I use chartreuse sometimes but not that often. When I do use chartreuse I like chartreuse pearl. The pearl seems to give it more of a glow. The colors I use most are yellow and glimmer blue.I catch a lot of fish on those two colors.
To make life enjoyable, you must have crappie days.
I think it is a combination of things...firstly I agree with Smoothlures , to a point....its so good because so many people are using it...but I also feel that for reasons unknown to me it just works and I'm not going to change. Although I do shy away from it on clear northern lakes and go with a more natural color such as smoke or met. grey
