Tournament bass fishermen really stress their trolling batteries. If you check the Bass Fishing Home Page http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/ Click on "Boats and Motors" and run a search for "Batteries" you will find many, many threads on the subject.

Trojans and Delcos are favorites, followed by Optima. Delco seems to have lost some favor as the Voyagers are no longer sealed.

The only problem I have had with the optima's is if you let them discharge they will not charge back up. The optimas use a material that looks like insulation. The insulation soaks up the liquid thus you get a dry cell battery.

Trojans. I can run them for a couple of days and still not totally discharge them.

    They offer great protection.

Trojans for me as well. I have had my set for two years now and I am very pleased. They seem to last longer on a single charge than my BPS ones did.

I use marine batteries from O'Reilley's Auto. They've been good 5 year plus batteries for me. I fish thirty to fourty days a year and give the trolling motor a good work out.

I'm going to switch to sealed batteries in the future. I have to remove all my poles and a panel to get to the batteries to check the water level in the new boat. Pain and the butt so I'll probably invest in the Optima batteries next go around.

Here's an article about the lead prices. I noticed lead sinkers were up quite a bit recently.
