    Default rods

I think todays line and the knot's are stronger than the tips of these expensive long rods. I was reading a article about line strength, and it made me clear up my thinking. I tested my 6-ft medium action crappie rod (spooled w/ 6# test) with a 1-pound can (yes, only one pound). Tied it to a wire that was wrapped around the can. The one-pound can almost doubled the rod , I thought it might break....no way was this good for the glue around the handle. And the article suggested me try to crank the spinning reel....lol. I could barley lift the can off the floor, little alone reel.

Charlie Brewer used to do a similar demo. With typical crappie tackle, you just can't put that much pressure on the line. At a recent fly fishing show, I watched a guy give a presentation on tarpon fishing. He said he could only put 15-16 lbs of pressure on a fish, and that was with a 12wt tarpon rod and 20# tippet.

Good knot is for getting out of brush and saving the hook. I loose a lot of hooks, but I can't ever remember loosing a crappie fish because of a poor knot.

You ought see the knot my wife ties.I can't figure it out, but it holds up.

Perfect knots are for perfect knot heads.

I been using a spin knot for 30 years or more. Learnt it bass fishin'. Fast. Holds. I think Richard W. and Wally M and others use the same knot. I don't know this for sure, as I don't think I ever been to a knot tying class. MHAO

i use a palomar knot because it works well for me. my main concern is not losing my .60 jigs. i am a little tight(well a lot tight) so i use 6# mr. crappie and a palomar knot so i dont lose many jigs.

I use a straight out loop not on everything I tie on for crappie fishin,1st the loop let's the jig perform it's natural action a lot better than knotted tight on the eye,2nd I could potentally lose a many as 30 or 40 jigs in a day long line trolling ,I have 10 or 12 rods out and 1 hangs I want to snap it off as quickly as possible and keep on cruising. I don't want a super strength knot for these reasons.

I clueless as to what a spin knot is. But thats not a new situation for me.
I typed in spin knot with in quotes in Google and found things like

Tom could you help me out as to just what a spin knot is iffen it does in anyway relate to crappie fishing and isn't something top secret where one would have to be eliminated if I found out what it was. :D
