I prefer night fishing over day time fishing. There's no boat waves nor boat traffic, little wind if any, and usually a decent bite. You dont have to work at catching fish dealing with wind, trolling motors, etc. You pick your spot and anchor down, put out lights, kick back and enjoy the early night. Beautiful skies, good company, peace and quiet, and a few snacks and beverages. It doesnt get much better than that.

I'll spend an evening after dark or an early morning on a fishing dock now and then. Recently as I was being checked for a license about 11pm, the Warden said "hang around 'till about 3-4am; that's when the bigger ones roll in." I thought he was pulling my leg; besides, I was leaving at midnight anyway. But the next Sat I went in the sleet and rain and caught more and bigger fish than I ever had at that lake. And sure enough, they were done biting by 5am. Can't figure that one out; nothing changes at that time. Didn't use any lights (excepting what is always on at the dock). Enjoyed it though.
Jeremiah 16:16a "But now I will send for many fishermen," declares the Lord, "and they will catch them."

Night time is the right time. I have a green light which i use in water over 10'-12'. 17' 25' often works well in hot weather. Right now I'm fishing between 12' and 4' with no light. Just an overhead lantern to light the inside of the boat. There were 15 people on the causeway last nite with lanterns. Causeways work well starting in fall as the bait fish come in to get warm from rock heated water. This time of year the causeways are in the way of the route to the spawning grounds. More and more people are finding out about this as well. At least no jet skiers buzzing the boat. yet.

What type of submersible light do some of you use and where can you by them? Also do you run them off your boat battery or do you use a seperate battery?

I use a couple of Brinkman Starfire II's. They sell 'em at Walmart for $14 ea. Here's what they look like. http://www.2catchmarlin.com/store/info.php/id/246

I use a seperate battery each per 2 starfires per fisherman. That's fishing 8 rods per fisherman off the front and back of the boat, one sStarfire for someone fishing off one side of the boat fishing 4 rods.

I use the green ones from BPS about $15. Use a separate 12 volt deep cycle for power.

I love fishing at night. Lakes are beautiful, peaceful and large finned toothy creatures hunt for unsuspecting plastics. Night fishing = Good.
Good things come to those who bait.

I've done it for salt water species in FL but never in fresh water. It's on my things to do list. Already have a place in mind.
