    Gordon,

If I owned a bait company and you sent me that little poem, I'd have sent you a big old box of stuff too. I gotta admit, it brought a tear to my eye. You see, my dad was never much of an "outdoors" type. My grandfather (Poppy) however, lived for hunting and fishing. Growing up, he taught me to fish, first for panfish off the dock, then for trout, bass, perch, crappie and pike out in the lake. When I was old enough to get my first pair of hip-boots, we hit the creek after rainbows on opening day.

He taught me to fly-cast, taught me to shoot a rifle and shotgun, and taught me to hunt everything from birds & bunnies, to deer. We spent tons of time together enjoying the outdoors as I grew up. By the time I had graduated high school and left for the Navy, I can honestly say that he was my best friend in the world. Yeah, I had all my buddies that I ran with, but he was the one person in the world that I could talk to about anything that crossed my mind.

He's been gone for well over 20 years now, and I still miss him. In his honor though, I've made it a point to teach my kids all the things he taught me. Now I'm a new grandfather (Poppy), and It's killing me waiting for my grandson to get old enough to take fishing (he just turned 1). Now I'm on the other end of grandpa and me and plan to make the most of it, just like my grandfather did.

Thank you very much for your poem Gordon. It's brought back so many great memories.

Kudos to the Blakemore folks too - It's always refreshing to see a successful business that is run by folks that haven't forgotten the important things in life!

Thank you that was an honor. Print that Poem out and use it if you want. Im glad I could bring back some memories. I loved my Grandfather. One huge memory was when we were all staying at out camp trailer and he took me and my Brother fishing while my Dad was still working before he could get down there. Well he leaned over to get some more water in the minnow bucket and I think I bumped him, cant remember, but he fell right in that water. Boy me and my brother were little critters and we were out to save Pawpaw and we just had to help him in, even though the water was only waist deep to him lol. I was upset because that was my day to sit in his lap and drive back to the trailer but I couldnt because he was all wet lol.

Thank you all. I have written many different poems and one thing I have learned is you never write from your mind, but only from your heart. It is an honor to share this with all of you
