Reading your question made me flip through some recent issues of In-Fisherman magazine where I remembered a summary of a study done on blacks vs. whites. It was in the August/September 2007 issue and the study occurred in June 2003 in the Blood River area. Some of the other guys' experience goes right right along with the overall summary which is that whites are generally found deeper. The results of the sampling are as follows with the percentages indicating the relative number of fish found at that type of location:

White Crappie
Deep Channel: 42%
Deep Flat: 36%
Shallow Flat: 9%
Shoreline Brush: 7%
Rock Bank: 4%
Shallow Channel 2%

Black Crappie
Shallow Flat: 51%
Shoreline Brush: 24%
Deep Channel: 11%
Deep Flat: 10%
Shallow Channel: 2%
Rock Bank: 2%
