Sundrop, yeah, it was the interest that blew my mind (what's left of it)
I could easily see keeping a boat that long, or at least 10 or so.

Thanks Darryl for the link.
This only my opinion, but nothing you can say will change my mind. That makes it a FACT.

If your looking at something entry level and somewhat cheap I would look at a boat that is set up similar to a Grizzly All welded 1654. Now the new ones run about $2349 but that would get you what you described AND a front deck where you could mount your trolling motor and fish comfortably all day.
Keep checking your local paper. Something will come up. I had a 16ft. flatbottom at one time and had no front deck. Your back will thank you for the deck and comfy chair.

I have a Carolina Skiff 198dlx - they now make a 1780 dlx - my boat is 19ft long and 80 inches wide - the 1780 is just 17 ft long thus the model number - I have a 90hp 4stroke - you don't have to go that much if you do not want to but as most people will tell you you will wish you did later - maybe not in your case - Carolina Skiff is very reasonable priced - nothing fancy tough boat with lots of room - not much storage but great to fish out of - I have a trolling motor on mine and that takes car of your non gas motor situation - around here just pull the prop and you can putt around with your troller

and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!
you know I bout had a heart attack thinking about financing for 12 years as they suggested - but I still cut to 8 years and they had a 1.9% special in 2003 when I got my boat - I then thought at that interest rate why not extend a little - I still could not do the 12 year thing even at that rate - but I put a little more down and went 8 years - I got my payment to less than a $100 a month - my reasoning then was I more than likely waste a $100 a month on stupid crap - of course gas was closer to $1.00 a gallon then but I just narrowed down some of my spending and found a $100 a month - and then the wife makes the payments so life is good - now if I can just find the money to pull it to the lake

I don't know if you all have "Southern Skimmer" boat down your way, but they are the cheapest in their class. Performance, to me, isn't great, but worth the money.

I went to a Bass/Saltwater expo in Raleigh a few weeks ago and was surprised to see all the options you could get with a basic aluminum boat. AK Mccallum co. Had wide bottom Jon boats with nice little side consoles and 25 hp motors for under 6K trailer and all. And amny good optons for MUCH less. I had to start giving aluminum some serious thought!
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
AkK McCallum has alot of good stuff there

I went with a Carolina Skiff and am well pleased. Mine is a J16. Back when I bought it I thought this is the one....would never want another. WRONG!!! Now I want a 19'er but if I got one of those then I'd need a larger P/U. Bummer since I dont have the funds for both of those. If fiberglass isnt what youre wanting you should look at the aluminum boats from F & F. They have high sides. safe for the kids and come with a wide body....very nice boats.
