Default Tieing a jig to line

Just wondering what kind of knot you all use when tieing a jig to your line?

I've started using the Orvis or Becker knot:

It's easy to tie and very strong. Several knot "gurus" swear by it.

I either use the palomar or if I want 2 jigs on 1 line I'll use the surgeon's loop. Both are very strong.

    Default knot

Palomar knot. If your eyes or fingers don't work like they used to (me) run it through single & back through single. Makes tying a lot easier.

I'm old and stuck in my ways. I've been fishing a Palomar knot for about 50 years and it is still a great strong knot and easy to tie.

Agreed - best all around knot. Best knot strength and break weight. I've been using it for over 20 yrs. I used the fishermans/berkley/rapala knot before but the palomar is better and easier to tie.

Just remember to spit lube your knot before tightening. Cinching a dry knot can create enough heat to weaken your line.

Art Scheck did some very extensive knot tests a couple of years ago for one of the fly fishing magazines. (He also summarized his results in the book, Fly-Fish Better.)

He found that the Orvis, Pitzen, Trilene and Palomar knots were the best. Some knots worked better with heavier lines, others worked better with lighter lines.

Almost any knot tied well will work. We're after crappie, after all, not tuna.

    With weedguard - Palomar

    Plain head - Double Surgeon
