Buckeye Mike also does it the way I like it too.

A hook hanging down is ok for those other knots, but if you want a jig to hang horizontal a loop or a quick clip will keep the jig horizontal.
The other aspect of a loop is that the line does not adhere to the eye of the jig which allows it to swing freely not being impeded by the stiffness of the line.
In short it will dance better.
You can adjust those other knots ,but your always adjusting.

Loop knot trolling. Cinch knot when fishing brush because I can tie one in ten seconds or less and get back to fishing. Need that when hanging up a lot. CF

Trilene knot for mono and braid.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Art Scheck did some very extensive knot tests a couple of years ago for one of the fly fishing magazines. (He also summarized his results in the book, Fly-Fish Better.)

He found that the Orvis, Pitzen, Trilene and Palomar knots were the best. Some knots worked better with heavier lines, others worked better with lighter lines.

Almost any knot tied well will work. We're after crappie, after all, not tuna.

I'd sure like to catch a tuna sized crappie though. I guess I'd better get back to the water.
