I use my 16' canoe in the spring, summer and early fall in the water supply lakes.
I try to keep it simple but seem to be adding more and more stuff lately.
Just picked up a SitBacker canoe seat for the spring.

The 8# trolling motor was the best thing I ever mounted to my canoe. We hardly touch a paddle all day now. A small deep cycle battery will last several days.

Planning on getting a portable fish finder in the near future.

I use a plastic milk crate with some vertical and angled pvc rod holders.

Paddling.net has some good info as well.
Currently a non-fishing slacker! (not for too much longer)

EZ, I was raised in Levittown, a little further out than you. Not far from us, down Wantagh parkway(I think- looong time ago) was Wantagh Park. Salt water, boat ramp, picnic, park for the kids and so on. LOTS of protected inshore waters to play in, and lots of flounder, snapper blues, weakfish, and others were caught there in their season. If I remember right, directions were; Wantagh pkwy(wantagh right-levittown left)off southern state pkwy to merrick rd(past sunrise hwy)turn right and go just a little bit and turn left into the park. Had a blast and spent many days there when I was young. Hope this expands your territory......

Thank you for the link EZrider. Cabelas has a nice pair and are in the same ballpark for price. They call them stabilizers-outriggers. Mike

Giller, had been compareing the two for quite some time. If it would help you i will take close up pics Of the RM set tonight when i get home. A couple of things i likeed over the cabelas set. The pontoons are better built and have a tunnel shape under them "will have pics" Also the arms on the RM set are double insted of single and can be angled. I use a 30lbs trolling motor and you would be suprised how fast a canoe gets around.

    Hey EZrider,

Bamafan off the Louisiana boards told me you wanted some canoe rigging pics/tips.

I have done a good bit of canoe fishing. I can give ya some pics of how I rigged mine out.

Here is my one person canoe rigged up and ready to hit the lake...

Here is the canoe back at the launch... little messier then when it departed... (that heater you see in the floor is nice on cold days... you cannot move around to warm up in a small boat)

I have a two person cannoe I also take out. Chairs with backs are a must for comfort...

Here it is at the at shore, not the best pic for seeing the setup but you can see the seats and rod holders...

Even got my wife out paddlin' around one day... She never comes when I hook up the big boat...

And another back at the launch. Notice the very short rod with the large weight hanging off the boat. Thats my depth finder! Just buy a cheap line counter from your sporting goods store and put it on an extra rod with a large weight. I used an ice fishing pole so its not in the way.

Remember to bring a stringer or you might end up like me with a makeshift live well. Used my gear chest and drift sock worked fine until I needed to use the sock...

So to sum it up here is a gear list for a canoe fishing trip...

    -small anchor & rope
    -drift sock (if open water/windy)
    -landing net
    -floatation device (incase you tip)
    -make-shift depth finder
-smaller tackle box (big boxes get in the way)
    -stringer
    -heater if its cold
    -paddle :p
    -waterproof bag/box (for valueables/camera)
-equip rod holders (makes things easier even just to store them)
-ice chest /crate to put all this in

And I am sure I forgot some stuff but thats bout what I bring on a canoe trip. :D
