Well not long after we started I realised all the tops were still on, they were all full. Luckily for them me nor my wife drink but anyway when leaving i rememberd a trotline attached to the dock I always mean to just check, not to steal fish but to just look at it and what ever fish may be attached . I would have either left the fish or walked them up to the house if they were not doing so well. Anyway I pull it up and theres a weird large pouch attached to the end, ofcourse about big enough to hold 10 bottles of beer. Obviously someone had had the same idea as me to check the trot line but they were obviously not as nice as me and must have thought the beer bottles was a special trap as the pouch looked kind of crabtrapish so they emptied out the pouch on the dock to just find they are full beers. Funny that if they had been fish they woud have been stolen but since they were beer they were just dumped out right in the middle of the dock for all to see.
Not bashing you in anyway, but you cant tell him that he is stupid for leaving it out, when in return you are breaking the law by getting on a private dock. You better not dare come to Missouri and do what you do in Flordia. 1) getting on a private dock is trespassing, and will get you a night in jail. That also gives us people that dont get on docks run off by dock owners when we fish near them. Becuase other people will get up on the dock to fish the insides of it, so they yell at all of us. 2) Checking a trot line that is not your will also get you a ticket from the conservation officer. Just let you know if plan a trip to Missouri that is.

TAE is right, the only thing worse than a dock owner catching you on his dock are his neighbors that fish off the docks. I've seen people tie up to dock and other stuff like that (I'm guilty of this too, but try not to do it much). It gives fishermen a bad name. In MO I got run off of a dock that I bumped up against with the boat, the only thing that made him get real mad was the fact that after we had words I started to leave and he told me that I could fish around his dock anytime, too much crack for breakfast I think. As far as the stolen net I'll bet it wasnt a fishermen, because real sportsmen dont steal.

I learned my lesson about peoples docks when I was about 13. The aforementioned older friend let me fish his dock and his daughters dock two houses down. Old man in between let me fish on his dock. In all after a while I could fish on about 10 or 12 different docks. The best dock to catch crappie off of had a brushpile next to it and a pontoon boat parked in it. One rainy day I decided to stand on the pontoon boat to get out of the rain, being the age I was, I was interested in the fishing stuff they had on the pontoon boat. I wasn't gonna take nothing but I checked it out. About that time a big 'ol fat woman came out of the house cussin' and hollerin' at me to get the - - - off their boat and their dock. I was scared as hell and I didn't get to fish that dock anymore.
Ya ain't holdin' your mouth right.

I grew up on Lake Texoma, on the Oklahoma side and as a kid, swam and fished all summer long. My favorite place to swim was a long boat dock with around two hundred boats at any given time.

This was back in the 60's and most folks left all their tackle, trolling motors, etc......etc. in plain site. You just didn't have to worry all the time about thieves. Never heard of anyone ever losing any of their equipment in the two years I lived there.

Now a days, you couldn't leave a dead turtle laying around, it'd end up on Ebay.

You are right. Ebay has its pluses and minuses. You could make a fortune stealing dvds and cds and reselling them on ebay if you were crooked enough to not worry about getting caught.

A few years back a buddy of mine and I drove from mableton Ga. down to florida. We stopped at a motel to spend the night. I parked the boat next to another boat at the end of the motel parking lot. The other boat was full of rods and reels and tackle boxes and coolers. While we were toting all of our gear to the room I remarked to my buddy how trusting the people were around there. Next morning we were eating breakfast at the waffle house next to the motel about 4:30 A.M. when the guys who owned the other boat came in cussing and raising cain. Someone had cleaned out their boat. We loaned them two rods and reels and enough tackle so they could fish that morning and get to a baitshop when it opened. The deal was we would get our tackle back when everybody got back to the motel that night. Guess what? You guessed it....never saw them again.

Sorry Shellback--I was unaware of the screening process that only allows fine upstanding pillars of virtue such as yourself to participate in this forum. Been fishin?

Yeah, I guess you're right. As long as there are people willing to trespass on private property there will be people who insist on handling other people's stuff and eventually that stuff will get stolen.

    Thumbs down Thieves are everywhere...

..used to live in Hickory,NC..just got new job and was staying in hotel...had a "room" at a storage location and kept my boat there...had to enter code at keypad to get in and someone on site during day...just had lower unit rebuilt and was waiting on new registration...was there on friday, came back monday and someone "helped" themselves to my motor..unbolted from transom and cut cables (65HP),...called police, as much interest as he showed in my problem  thought he might have been involved.... ...had to have seperate insurance; storage didn't cover loss..couldn't afford at that time....every time I would go and get something at storage get pi--offed again...seeing boat w/o motor... ...people just don't want to work for things these days...rather take easy way out...get rich schemes and robbery...OK, I'm done!!!

Several years ago, A friend and I had been fishing one morning and had stopped to eat breakfast and have a cup of coffee at a local eatery. We were seated at a window table, when I noticed a man in my boat handing rods and other equipment to a woman. I walked out and asked him what he was doing, and this SOB had enough nerve to say he was shopping. I think he learned his lesson and still remembers to this day, everytime he polidents his teeth at night.
