Talking I found something odd yesterday

I came across a Coot(water bird, very agravating) that had somehow gotten a trible hook from a crankbait stuck in his butt. I guess in his attempt to remove the hoot, he got the other hoot hung in his beek. He was in a real mess out on the water. I managed to catch him with a landing net.(Wasn't difficult cause all he could do was go around in circles). I removed the hook. He needed some med's on his butt but I didn't have any. When I tossed him back in the water he left in a hurry. I should have rung his neck.

    I agree with ringing a coot's neck.
I had a similar experience with a doe hanging by her hind legs in a fence about 20 years ago. Her hind legs went between the two top strands of barb wire on a fence that was about 6' high. The best I could tell, she didn't have any broken legs. And, it was almost as if she knew I was going to help her. She didn't fight at all until I bear hugged her to lift her out of the fence. She didn't waste any time thanking me after she was free.

Ya did good. Coots are harmless and don't eat fish normally. They are plant eaters. Moss and algie for the most part.

Maybe you'll be in trouble someday and someone higher up will judge you worth saving.
    Good fishing.

I'd have done the same thing. Helped the bird and released it unless it was so badly injured it couldn't eat or fly.
Good things come to those who bait.

Sure seems odd that all of us mean, bloodthirsty hunters and fishermen are the ones who go out of their way to help animals in trouble. I doubt many PETA nuts have ever pulled a deer out of a fence or carried a box turtle across the road

There are thousands and thousands of coots at lake Seminole Fl/GA. Sometimes you have to be careful or you'll get hit in the face by one while running a boat through a herd of them.

That's a good statement.:D I was fishing back in the fall and saw a Bat flopping in the water. Took my jig pole and flipped it onto the deck of my boat. After about an hour it dried out and flew away.

PETA is too busy patting their self on the back after killing a bunch of dogs to help an animal in need.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
