Cheap, Cheap, Cheap Looks like H--l. You can buy some nice rod holders for the time spent trying to save a few bucks! You could probably find that much money under the cushions of the sofa!

I own my own SHOP! I can make Two of them before you can remove the cushions off your sofa! Two Teen Bars like this = $40.00 a peice. Can you make $80.00 in 20 minutes? I dont think so! I can make alot more thinks For the boat that are better made than what you can buy. I can help that you can't do the same. Some of us have got it and some of us dont!

I guess it's a good thing that looks don't catch fish, huh?

Personally, I don't see the point in spending a lot of money on a rod holder rail. This setup looks like it would work as anything else, and it probably costs about 1/4 as much as a driftmaster setup.

Obviously it is working fine for a lot of you, but I would point out the
troubles a friend of mine had with this arrangement - I think his were
1/2" black iron pipe? Anyway, several times they broke off at the root
of the threads where they screwed into the base plate. Appeared to be
metal fatigue, we never figured out if maybe wind buffeting or just shock
during trailering was contributing to this - but I know one broke and went
in the drink when he came off a big wave. 20' bass boat, so not as rough
a ride as some will see. Maybe he's just a reckless driver? :D

Can part of that problem be solved by using schedule 80 pipe, Jeff?

Yes Sir, that would probably help. Of course, the thicker wall gets heavier
too, which might cancel out part of it? Maybe a combo of the upright sch 80
and thinner stuff for the crossbar? Just an idea. The fellow I mentioned
ended up with Hi-tek, and loves them. And unlike me, spider-rigging is his
claim to fame :D so I put a lot of stock in what he says.

Those holders look real nice.I bought my first Tite loc Black Widow rod holder and after receiving it figured out I can easily make one.I have made the mounting bases(that cost about $20.00 if you buy them)at work with left over aluminium and they look identical and work great.I have also made the top bar section, but I made it alittle bigger with a little more spacing between the actual rod holder mounts and more heavy duty.I have material to lathe up some of the rods when we get slow and I have the time.I find it very satisfying to make stuff with with my own hands and actually put to good use, even if you could very easily just go and buy it.
