bringing fish home from the Florida Keys we use the dry ice because we stop at a couple of different spots and spend the night - also not just keep a barriar btween the dry ice and fish btu also duct tape around the seal of the cooler due to dry ice will make a toxic gas and if your cooler is not real tight the fumes in a car could get ya - people in the keys told me about this and they fix coolers up for folks all the time to bring fish home - if he is driving straight through the frozen blocks should do just fine I would think
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -
and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!

I was driving from TX to MN one yr and got pulled over for speeding in Nebraska. I had a 48 qt cooler with several containers (frozen, covered in ice)
of crappie, flounder, & speckled trout fillets I was taking to share with my family. Cop asked what was in there, I told him. He asked if I had left a 1" square patch of skin on each fillet. No. He didnt ticket me for it but could have. I think its a pretty much nation-wide law and just something to know.
I have not and probably never will amend how I transfer fish because of it but sure nuff if I didnt say anything yur Dad will get popped for it and I will think why didnt I mention it.

I think it'll be okay Tap. If you pack frozen crappie fillets in a fairly large quantity of ice it will easily be frozen solid in 8 hours. Pack it tight to remove any air space in the cooler.

One thing I do right before long camping trips is put all the meat in the freezer and then crank the freezer down to it's lowest setting overnight to get everything REALLY frozen before throwing it into the cooler with ice.

I wrap frozen bags of fillets in foil then pack in ice inside cooler for an 8 hour trip from Little Rock to Houston. They are still frozen when I arrive.

I vacume seal all my fish and meat products then freeze. When me and KKtPFP go camping i just put them in the bottom of the cooler and cover with ice and they keep til I thaw and use them, also I use 5 day coolers.
