They are covering the Queen keeping her cool. Scouts are out looking for a suitable place for them to live. When that place is found and the group decides off they go. Lots of them take up residents in the walls and attics of houses they can get into. Lots of bee keepers will have swarm traps out to catch them.

They are considered livestock here as well. I do not keep bees. I looked into it quite heavy for a while. I probably will some time in the future.

My wife has always wanted to keep bees. We aren't in a location currently for them though. I see sometime in the future moving where she could.

I had a swarm come through last month. They stayed in the little tree in my front yard for 3 days, we had a cool snap of about 10 degrees difference from when they first landed so I guess that had them held up. I did call a lady that keeps bees and she did come get them. They were very sluggish and docile because of the temperature difference and there were several that had died at the base of the tree. She said they probably wouldn’t have survived on their own because they were so weak. I’m happy to say that she told me about 1/2 of them did make it and their hive is thriving now.
