Default Rods… thinking of getting something 10’ to 13’, but don’t know if I need.

I started out with two 7’ UL rods. I’m not used to long + flimsy, so I quickly moved to a 6'3", Light Power rod that I liked much better, so I bought a second setup just like it. I ended up not getting rid of the 7’ UL’s and I used them quite often when fishing from my bass boat. The 6’3” rods seemed to work better in my 10’ pond prowler boat or my kayak. I also got a Sam Heaton SS 7’ recently, but haven’t caught anything on it yet, so the verdict is still out on that one. Not even sure what power that one is, as it isn’t marked. Feels like a ML to L.

The last trip out, I used a 10’ collapsible Shakespeare Wonderpole rod that utilizes the line just tied to the tip. Basically a modern cane pole setup. It was nice to be able to reach back under overhanging tree limbs, but the drawback was the line was a fixed length. Awkward to fish with. So I’m thinking of doing the same with a long rod with a small spinning reel so I can adjust the line length and reel in the fish vice pulling backward so the rod tip doesn’t get stuck in the tree limb if I go up (don’t ask how I know that -
) Looking at the ACC rods again, as I haven’t bought one yet. I’m thinking 10’ should be good. Anyone use them like that?

    All the best,
    Glenn

I single pole with 11.5ft to 13.5ft mostly. Two poles at the same time 9ft-11ft. Extra long reach for doodle-socking 15.5ft. I cut 6 inches off the butts of every non-Tennessee Reel seat rod I buy so the butts don't hit me in the ribs while fishing. I keep my index finger at the top of the grip resting on the blank.

I have two of the acc gsm10 rods & i really like them. I also have a 13 foot acc & a 13 foot Jenko Kevin Rogers series rod & like them too but 10 feet has became my favorite. I'm using shimano fx 2500 size reels on all of them @ $19.88 a piece at walmart & they've worked great.

I have one 10 foot Berkley , it works well for a long rod and was really cheap
prolly can't break it and will work beside the big dollar rods pretty well
not a fan of a long rod near anything but open water though
that dipping under branches thing might get dicey with lots of pole out there ...

I have 3 Shakespeare 10ft Crappie Hunter trigger spin combo, auction house price $12.
4 Zebco 7 ft Crappie Fighter spinning reel combo, auction price $10. Short rod for bait catching.
4 Zebco 10 ft Crappie Fighter trigger spin combo, auction price $12.
4 Zebco 12 ft Slab Seeker trigger spin combo, auction price $10. They have the metal bands to hold reel on foam handle.
10 Southbend 14 ft spinning rods, auction price $10.
8 HT Shooting Star 10 ft telescopic spinning rods, free from auction dealer. top guides missing, ez replacement. I didn't like the front of the reel seat sitting at 22 1/2" so I moved them to 12".
6 No Name 210 telescopic spinning rods, $3. They are 6 ft 7 1/2 inch.
6 No Name 300 telescopic spinning rods, $4, They are 9 ft 9 inch.
10 B&M Duck Commander 10 ft telescopic Panfish pole with top guide only, $3. Thinking about adding guides and reel seat.
8 Zebco Micro 33 trigger spin reels on 5 ft casting rods, $5. Bought for reel only.

Fishing from my kayak I like 2 10' rods in center, 2 12' rods to their outside and 2 14' rods to their outside.

Find an auction house near you, never know what a dealer will have. Buy in bulk for better price.
