I believe it is recommended to change them each year.
I know the jackets have a sight check but wondering how long your charges last.

Depends on which one you have. I use the Mustang Survivor and they have an expiration date on them. But if new it is 3 years for mine. I had one that I let go 7 years and decided I had pushed it and decided I better change it out. Pulled cord and yep it was still good.

I honestly think the CO2 cartridges are not dated. If they are punctured, they are empty. You can unscrew it to check without setting it off. The bobbin in the mechanism is dated and must be changed if out of date.

Mine lasted right up until I left them stored in a live well and it rained and I didn't have the boat covered. that live well never gets used and is plugged off, but it sure does hold rain water good lol. I couldn't understand why the lid was up sitting in the driveway. That cost me about $80

Many, many years ago I had a buddy leave his in his boat's overstuffed storage compartment. Can't remember if he said it rained or was really humid, but they deployed & busted the lid off the storage compartment. (he had a high dollar Bass boat)
So, if you plan on leaving them in the boat, just be sure there's plenty of room for them to inflate should they happen to do so.

was rather entertaining to say the least ..... sure slowed up his speedy approach a good bit ......
seems his needed to be recharged right after that trip ....no expiration date required ....
