I used to use 13' for forward facing sonar . Many keep going longer . I have neuropathy and found I can flip a jig out 30 ' if I need to with 11.5' pole. Here most of the time fish not too spooky and aim for 15 to 20' . Much lighter and still strong enough to boat flip fish. Long enough to stop a bait or slow it down enough. I use 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig but only add a split shot if fishing really deep. Those guys using the 16' or longer poles using a heavy weight most of the time.
