I loaded my new Dobyns 7'4" Light action with Daiwa J-Braid X8. I can shoot a 1/16 jig out of sight with it.
I really like this setup but I have to use 00 fast snaps in order to have the loop. This is hard on old eyes. If I break off, I'm out of luck. Just can't re-tie while on the water. I wish someone would come up with an easy loop knot for Braid.
This setup is great but I still use mono 4# on my 4 TFO rods. I'm thinking about putting braid on all my rods.
    What do you think?
Life is too short to use line you cannot see. Enjoy the time on the water, not frustration. No time have i ever thought i needed braid over mono for crappie fishing. In fact, i use hi viz yellow or orange mono on almost all of my rods

I use braid because I almost exclusively shoot docks. If I still open water fished or fished with minnows, jig under a float. I would still use mono

Ive transitioned to using mono for my dock fishin recently. I was getting bad spots in the braid, and breaking off fish swinging them in the boat or if they wrapped a pole. It took me a while to realize i fish zebra mussel lakes/river and the tiny little baby ones attached to the poles and supports were fraying my line over time. Tried leaders for a bit and it helped. Now the last 2 years ive been using fresh 4lb mono so i can still shoot/flip/skip accurately and almost all of my problems have gone away, and its much easier to see the frays in the line now. I have broken off a few big fish that wrapped me up good, but i cant shoot 6lb mono well enough with 1/32 and 1/16. I respool my dock rods probably 10 times per summer to keep the accuracy.

I have probably 15 other rods with braid, for walleye, bass, pike, cats, and even a couple 2lb braid for casting small jigs for bluegill.

No zebra muscles here yet. Fisher the Gulf a lot in my younger years. Barnacles were the curse of any pier fishers existence

Some very interesting replies to think about. Learning something every day.
Going tomorrow and hopefully will come to some solution.

I am basically a Dock shooter and brush fisherman:
    My equipment for tomorrow:
Dobyns 7'4" Light action with braid
    TFO 6' UL with braid
    2- TFO 6' UL with 4# Viscous
TFO 6' UL with slip cork 4# Viscous
I SI and 2D until I find fish and then verify with Garmin LVS 34. I do not watch the screen all day just for verification.

That would be great. We are going to have to do that. Is the 1 stop service station at the lake still in business.? Buy jigs and eat breakfast while your vehicle is gassed up and windshield cleaned.

Look up some of Fuji's slow mo vids...their nomenclature is "reduction train". You won't outcast straight line distance (controlled setup) Any rod I've built in the last 5 years, that's whats wrapped on em.

All of my rods are out of Japan. All the ones I use are made to be extremely sensitive and have micro guides. I mean real micro guides with inner diameter of 1mm. The closer the line to the blank the more sensitive the rod. And that’s not me saying that but some of the best rod builders in the world. Many of those rods are designed to be used with certain line types. I have several rods deigned for Ester lines, which have a diameter of around 0.095mm. So none of my rods will work with slip bobbers. All I do is cast and retrieve so the micro guides are no hinderance to me. I can fling a 1 gram jig a long way with these rods. When I use Ester lines I also use a shock leader tied with a 3 turn surgeons knot and it doesn’t decrease casting distance enough to really concern me. My only drawback with these tiny guides is as I have aged since I started buying these rods threading line through the guides takes me a little longer. They’re just hard to focus on in my senior years.

    Regards

All my poles have big holes. Most came from Grizzly Jigs and Richard Williams.
