I always have the other profiles and colors just for that.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

They work. I just don’t fish them anymore.

But , has it been said , profile don't matter ?
Keep this in mind , I DO NOT typically care for store bought baits , More often than not, my artificial of choice is created by an individual .
But once in a while a Big name bait gets in my way and in this case it was just that .....
Looked down at the dock and saw this here stupid looking thing laying in my path and the thought crossed my mind to give it a swim .....
Dropped said bait a few times ....NADA !
Moved to and fro a bit and presented it several different ways ,,,,,still NADA !
Finally it was about to get put back on said dock where it was found and I tried one last type of presentation before it got retired ......
seems if presented properly it will in fact ketch a few fish !
Put down deep and raised with some fluttering of the rod tip and then held still a second or 3 and then repeat , on the hold still be ready ....THUMP !
The fish that did bite it were mostly better fish and only one under bit it ....
It actually amazed me to ketch anything at all on it ....
to be quite honest I think in some cases a crappie is just stupid enough to bite about anything , not always for sure , but sometimes for sure yes ....
    Go figure .....right ....
KABOOM is of course what I do ....but most folks already knew that ....
redundance is the way to get thru in some cases ,just saying
p.s. think it's called the joker , I might a been the joker using the joker ,if the that's the name of said artificial plastic .
I love Jokers especially in summer when the water is hot but the thermocline is high too. Big River Slabs get deep in the shallow, shaded cover, right on the bank. Jokers always seem to get the most aggressive attack by the big ones when very slowly lowered into the water. It hides a big hook too. I'm usually using 15# braid, a Wally Marshall Signature Series Lews rod 14-16ft. I stick the rod all the way to the back of the cover then let out a foot of line then hold on. Those Lews rods have seen repeated abuse from me doing that and held up flawlessly. Some have a bit of the finish worn off where they are drug thru the trees & vines pulling out fish. Black & Chartreuse Jokers work best for me.

but here in lies the deal with me , if it looks ridiculous and ketches fish , I might go with something that looks cool and still ketches fish just as well .....it's just not me to have something that looks like that dangling from my rod .....just saying

I'm usually the only one with Jokers in the boat around here. I should be safe since I am very careful to not let anyone watch me fishing.

On any given day you just don’t know what will work…that is a big part of the fun of it. Good read - thanks

IMO profile matters, color doesnt most times. If they are keyed in on a nymph bite and you drop a shad bait or twister to them in a bug color you typically won't have near the success as if you dropped a nymph profile bait in a bright nasty color. Same going the other way, if you are fishing open water crappie out chasing balls of shad i betcha a baby shad would outfish a mayfly in a shad color.

Then you have crossover baits that can look like either end of the spectrum, tubes being one.

Ive had limited success with jokers, i think purely because they are a big bulky bait that really needs a 1/8 head to get a nice darting action and not fall like a parachute. My waters are usually too shallow for 1/8 unless dipping, and i much prefer a sleek slender bait for dippin.

But not all fish follow the rules, some will just eat anything presented half way correct! White crappies fall into that category most days of the year, mean suckers they are

I have run it on a 1/16 ballhead# 6 sickle hook since I picked it up off the dock last week , 3 trips now , it seems to have pretty fair amount of versatility.
12 inches under a float Sunday in muddy water was just dreamy, today fluttering across the bottom even more so …
Ain’t selling Wally’s baits is me , but it is not a bad deal for store bought, bet if I owned some , I might take off a leg or 2 and even try another type presentation.
Not my thing is this bait , but it is for sure a productive plastic when “fished” properly
