Fuel Treatment - Mercury Pro XS

For what its worth, Ive always been a fan of Seafoam, but a friend of mine bought a new Targa Tracker with a 150 Merc pro, the Tracker mechanic said DO NOT USE SEAFOAM, but with my experiances with Tracker mechanics I dont take much faith in what they say.

My dealer salesman/owner told me to use mercury products when i asked (was my first 4s), and said to not use seafoam. While talking to the mechanic in the back about a few rigging things i wanted done, i asked him the same question and he said merc only recommends mercury/quicksilver products. I said "what do YOU suggest" and he said "i use seafoam in all of my boats". That kinda told me what i suspected, that mercury tells their dealers/techs to only recommend merc additives.

I had my motor in for servicing two years ago at a different shop (merc certified) and i first told them I use seafoam to keep the engine clean because i burn a tank a year in our idle only lakes, and asked if there was anything else i should use. He walked me over to his desk and showed me all kinds of info on the Mercury products, told me none would interfere/react with seafoam, and suggested the quikleen because all the idling and older gas can cause some buildup in the fuel system/injectors and seafoam isnt the best at that sort of stuff, only combustion related carbon.

He also suggested the stabilizer but i really havent ever had issues with our non eth gas lasting the season.

I’ve had a Yamaha F60 since 2012. Use non-ethanol gas only and pour a can of sea foam in the tank first thing every year. No issues at all.

I’ve had and currently have DF Suzuki 4 strokes since 2007 they’ve all ran on e10 no additives with zero problems,just fill em and go.

This is from European Marine.........Mercury Component Cocktail"- for EVERY tank of fuel, whether or not your fuel contains Ethanol: (Chemically, this works much the same as the previously recommended (and now to avoid alcohol content) cocktail, and requires less components.) This is Don's Preferred "Cocktail":

-1oz Mercury QuickCare per 5 gallons fuel
-1oz Mercury QuickLeen per 5 gallons fuel
(If leaving fuel in boat for more than 30 days, Use Mercury QuickStor rather than the above Quickare- this will help protect against fuel degradation).
