Ketched me a tiny cooter yesterday ....
seems to be one happy camper in the turtle aquarium ....
seemed to want me to ketch it ....
was trying to ketch crappie and here it comes ....
right to my feet !
rode home in my pocket ....
good times yawl
prolly don't need to tell ya about the cuteness level ....
it is just about a ridiculous cute tiny turtle ....

I almost ran over an Alligator Snapper on the way home from an appointment yesterday afternoon. Flood waters are finally receding and I suspect he was going back home or to a new one.

Alligator snappers are getting to be rare these days , mankind is cruel in general to most of the reptiles we encounter, timber rattlesnakes are in trouble and so are canebrakes , along with eastern diamondbacks….
Many species that used to be commonplace are not around anymore….
We used to have an over abundance of horned lizards aka horny toads , they would scurry all over the place when you got out of your truck in most of Texas , last time I saw one was about 20 years ago ,,,,,sad for sure

We typically ketch one vulnerable baby turtle a year and raise it to a year old , they are on the list of edibles for a multitude of species.
At 1 inch in diameter about everything that is a predator eats them, birds, snakes , fish and even other turtles eat them , coons , stray cats , mink , otter and on and on ….
Once they reach about 2.5 inches in diameter their chance to survive the onslaught greatly improves …..if they stay off the roads….some folks actually run over them on purpose
