Default Crappie jigs made more to catch fishermen's eyes , Crappie not as picky.

I went out for a short trip this morning, but wind was bad and cold. Decided there will be better days. I always tell folks pretty jigs are to catch fishermen. Get ones that hold together . Takeum does a fine job. I never made a jig till last night . Ugliest thang you ever saw. Red sewing thread and white Deer hair. Fish had no hesitation to choke it down. Colors and all the fancy jigs can't beat presentation. I have caught them in the past on bare jig heads , Banana Peel , and other junk . Heck you could catch them on cigarette butts.

I glad to hear your report of how hungry the Crappie in your neighborhood are. Down here they are not so hungry, just move a good jig the wrong way and you're rewarded with a refusal.

I've took regular old yarn, upholstery thread, buck tail, hobby lobby feathers or faux fur & tied them up in the past & they worked fine. I also make colors in plastics i'm pretty sure not many or possibly anybody has & catch fish on them as good as anything else i have from the big companies. I think a lot of it is to get us fishermens attention too.

I agree with Nimrod, a lot of these jigs are made to catch your pocket book, not fish. Crappie fishing marketing has followed the bass fishing and turkey hunting model.

I have atleast 5 plastic boxes full of different colored curly tail grubs but in all actuality there are only about 6 different colors I use on any given day. The rest of those colors caught this fisherman! Ha!

I dead stick a jig most of time here . I have caught them on several area lakes for years and never worried much about color .
