That’s my thoughts too. Doesn’t matter as much if it’s right in their face.

While I don't believe pretty jigs catch more fish than ugly jigs, I firmly believe that color matters. I fish with live sonar (gasp) and have seen many times when fish will chase or short strike one color, ignore others and aggressively hit a different color. I cast 99% of the time and have four rods usually three different color bodies and two or three different head colors. If the fish are hitting one color well, I'll have that color on two different weight jig heads.

I was on the lake Wednesday and was fishing a color that I've been catching some fish on for a couple weeks. On one of the beds I came too there were two nice fish sitting on top of it. On my first cast I caught one, about 1.25lb. I made several casts to the other fish, and it chased my jig a couple times but never hit. I made casts with the other color jigs bodies with no luck, the fish wouldn't even react to the jigs. I dug around in my box and found a color that I'd caught fish on in the past. On the first cast the fish turned and hammered the jig, 1.80lbs.

I also believe that at times jig head color makes a difference. I have a buddy that is a very good crappie fisherman (I'm not), he spends a lot of time on the lake putting out beds and fishing, from time to time he lets me tag along. We were vertical fishing in the early spring a couple years ago, he was catching fish, but I wasn't. We could see the fish react on the live sonar, they'd hammer his but ignore mine. He fishes a different brand and style of plastic than I do, not having anything near the color he was using I got one of his plastics. Still no fish, he was also using a different color jig head than I was, after tying on one of his jigs and the same color plastic I started catching fish. Just to experiment we started changing body colors and continued to catch fish, albeit less than the hot color. Pick up a rod with a different color jig head and the bite turned off. This is probably a rare example but it did prove to me that at times jig head color matters.

Just my thoughts, this and $2.00 will buy you a cup of coffee in some places.
