I have to agree with the theory that color doesn’t matter as much as presentation majority of the time. But … I have seen times when a certain color will get bit and others get ignored using the same presentation.
Also, during the spawn if I miss a fish and it doesn’t hit , I immediately switch to a contrasting color and usually catch the fish.

Crappie will bite darn near anything when the conditions are right. But that's only if the conditions are right. I've watched a fish on live scope swim up to my jig and then just turn and go back to his tree. Change jig color and it darn near yanked the rod out of my hand. Seen them do the same with multiple colors. Change jig profile and they hammer it. Color, profile, size...it all matters at some point. I value my time on the water so I want to make sure i've got the tools to catch fish no matter their mood.

Them big old slabs take naps. If a jig goes by her nose and she's napping, no bite for you. If you aint getting a reaction she's still sleeping. I tested this many times pitching, when that jig touches her she will take off like a rocket. Just gotta bounce it and make a little wake without contact. If they chasing and not biting and you change something and get slammed instantly, you onto something. IMO
Kept a limit and even released about that many more today. Used that junk jig I tied for a joke . Like many days some would not bite but most did . Was freezing last night dropping water temps and lake rose 4 feet too. Several I talked to were having trouble getting bit.
Been using bare unpainted jigs rigged with different shaped bodies for years and caught thousand or more fish. I might even rough the lead up with a file to create shiny sides.
When it comes to lures in general, jigs IMO outperform any lure sold. Soft plastics are my thing, especially modifying them to come up with unique shapes and actions.
The nice thing about jigs is their universal fish species appeal. Simply stated, they are strike-triggers supreme. Fish of all sizes strike them so when targeting one species with jigs, keep in mind one thing - YOU CAN'T! Fish will be fish....
It is possible to make them bite about anything , key word "make" them ...
they are not bright fish for the most part , but making one bite a jig and having one chase it down and hammer it , instead of force feeding it .....night and day difference .....
priceless for sure ....
