Just remember, 3rd times a charm. So, should you be known now as Wet Face or Tail Slap? Very good story, thanks.
in my never ending quest to ketch crappie things happen .
last week I had a true giant female on the surface and was wrestling with her ,
I was on my knees trying to get a hold on her and she wasn't wanting me to touch her and eventually slapped me good and left ....
rose up all wet from her splashing me repeatedly in the face saying not so nice things as you could well understand.
now mind you this , sometimes a certain fish in that size range might want to be in a certain area , have seen it more than once , sometimes within 15 minutes or so if not spooked bad they might even bite again ....
was NOT the case with her, we were both thoroughly traumatized during the battle . BUT ,,,,,
this time of year especially , they might be right back in that same spot the same day or next day, sure enough ,about 5 foot from where I almost ketched her , she bit AGAIN the following day .....
we did an almost mirror image program of the first time and she smoked me good and wet my face AGAIN and escaped my grasp a second time !
pretty positive for sure it was the same big girl both visits ,,,,just saying
and yes I apologized for the bad words that just magically flowed from my mouth to the folks watching me get it handed to me by said fish as well ....

Reminds me of the time back in the early 1970's when I was snatching near 2lb Slabs from the buckbrush of Lake Barkley with a 10' collapsible pole, slip float & minner. It was all I could do to lift said Slabs up high enough to bring them over the gunnel, on account of the flexability of that pole. Along comes one that was somewhat heavier, and in my exuberance I lifted a little too hard & swung the fish clear across the boat & splashed it down on the other side ... and off she went. The following day, in the same general spot, I hooked up with her again. Quick thinking on my part told me to NOT try and swing her to my hand, but just swing her towards the back of the boat and drop her to the floor. Thing is, I was just as excited, or maybe moreso knowing it was a she-beast of a Crappie, & I overcorrected my swing and bounced her right off the top of the big motor at the end of my little 15' boat and right back into the lake.
Don't remember uttering any particular "bad words", but I'm sure I thought them. I do remember taking a 3 cig smoke break at the end of both of those traumatic events.
So, yeah .... I sympathize with ya, bruh !!
