Mitchell 308. The new ones are greatly improved over the old Garcia - Mitchell 308. I just picked up a Mitchell 310. Slightly smaller than the 308. Looking forward to trying it out

I'm using a Shimano Spirex 1000 on my 8' single jig rod, and a Okuma 20 on my 12' double jig rod (both primarily used Livescope flippin').
I do have a couple of rods outfitted with the Mitchell 308x reels, that I use for simple cast/retrieve methods.

    * Note - just remember to pick a reel that's heavy enough to balance your rod, depending on its length. A light reel on a long rod might sound good, but if the outfit is going to be tip end heavy, then it's going to be a strain on your wrist/forearm if used for any length of time. But, if it balances out (over an outstretched finger at the front end of the handle), then even if it is a little heavy in hand it's not going to be as noticable or as much a strain as a tip heavy outfit.

I use a few Presidents in a few of the sizes and for the money they’re hard to beat. The Daiwa Regal LT has 10 bearings and very smooth with a good drag. I have a couple of them in the 1000 size and they’re awful good.

Single long pole fishing shallow a bait caster works really well but any will work. Deeper a spinning reel is for sure the way to go.

Are you talking about long poles ? 10 ft or more ? If that’s the case and you fish fairly shallow the Slater Ice fishing reel is what I prefer. Super light weight, tough and fool proof.
I think my 12 ft rod with reel rigged out only weighs about 8 ounces.

them there amazon specials I found will ruin you on a killer open faced spinning reels ....not kidding either ....
totally the stuff , under 20 bucks .....bad to the bone quality ....it is what it is ....
gave one to my buddy last week , he is so in love with it ....just saying
I run 3 of them now , every time one of them "expensive" ones dies it gets replaced with better quality at around 25% of the name brand price ....
13 ball bearings and so smooth a babies buttocks are jealous ....just saying ....
the drag is super duper beyond smooth and the list of attributes goes on ...over sized handle knob and actually quite attractive as well ....the total package ..
even think they come in other colors as well ....

You happen to have the link to that reel on Amazon? I bought some of those cheap 10 ball bearings China reels once and they were junk. The drag was a joke.
