Dad went home to be with the Lord in December 2022 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He bought a Bass Tracker Classic XL about 1.5 years before he passed. He fished it every weekend until he got sick. We caught some good fish on that boat. I cherish the times we spent on it and wish I’d made more time to go with him.
After he passed, I kept it charged up and drained the gas. Couldn’t bring myself to fish it. Eventually the registration expired and although I’d charge it up and keep things tidy, fishing it felt like it wasn’t the right time.
After about a year, we got it registered and I prepared it to run again. Oil looked fresh, new gas and batteries trickle charged. I gave it a good shakedown run with my dad’s best friend Bob. Bob and my dad used that thing all the time. They loved trolling around the lake, so naturally, that is what we did for dad.
The boat ran great and was a subtle reminder that my dad lives on through me. I came to the realization that I’m now where he was years ago, in that I am now the steward of this boat to share experiences and life lessons with my children.
When I opened it up, it ran smooth as glass with the 50hp EFI Merc. Bob and I didn’t catch anything, but we enjoyed every minute of our time reconnecting and the afternoon on the water. My dad may be gone, but he is not forgotten. I’ll see him again someday through my faith in Jesus Christ. When we do meet again, I know I’ll have some great fishing stories to tell him about what his Bass Tracker did for me and my family.
Love you dad. This post is for you.

You’re the man! Thank you. PS - painted some jig heads the other day. Haven’t quite got to tying yet but testing out some colors. Black with glitter top coat is looking pretty good!
