I don't use a float a great lot but when i do they are small enough to see just the very top to make them easier for the fish to pull down if they are a little bit too big i usually put a double jig set up or a split shot under them to get the float to where it is just about to sink.

I use pencil floats when I fish with bobbers.

I generally use a thill type float. A couple of years ago, I went to a local winery that still used cork plugs for their bottles, and they gave me a Wally world bag of used corks they had on hand from wine tastings. Been experimenting with them, shaping with sandpaper, turning them with a table top drill press. lots cheaper than the thill for sure.

I've experimented with the smallest size Rocket Bobbers and have caught fish with them. Will have to try the pencil type this year.

I think you are correct. Too much resistance.

So, on your pencil bobbers, when fishing with a slip rig, what do like to use as a stop mechanism to maintain a specific depth (10’) when casting?

Looks like I’ll be clearing out the small round bobbers. Lol.
Q: are you fishing your “small jigs” with live bait, or do you occasionally work a plastic twister tail/tube jig by itself?

^^^This^^^ Fish felt the larger bobber and spit the bait before you knew they were there.

I use the rubber bobber stops that slide on the line. Do a google search. You can get like 600 of them for about $13
