Default New rod / reel… Thinking of changing my line choices for this one. Sam Heaton SS 7’

I bought a new rod. BnM Sam Heaton Super Sensitive 7 foot, 2 piece. I put the smallest Abu Garcia Revo X on it (size 10). Thinking of changing up my previous line setups for this one. Might go lighter on both the braid and fluoro. Looking for suggestions / recommendations.

I have two other 7 footers, but they are UL, 1 piece rods. They also have Revo X size 10’s on them. They have
10 lb Power Pro hi-vis yellow tied to a 4 lb Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon leader.

I’ve also tried 10 lb Spiderwire Invisbraid tied to a 6 lb Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon leader. I like that a bit more, as the Spiderwire seems a bit more abrasion resistant than the Power Pro, and going from 4 to 6 fluorocarbon didn’t seem to bother the fish at all.

I’m thinking 10 lb Spiderwire to 4 lb braid… Should I go lighter? 8 or 6 lb Invisibraid to 2 lb fluorocarbon?

Probably going to use this one for short casts / jigging close to the boat (kayak or pond prowler).

    All the best,
    Glenn

You're going to like the rod. My 7' Sam Heaton is my go to rod. I've run 10lb suffix 832 braid on it and suffix 4lb hi-viz mono on it. I cast, jig and dock shoot with it and I honestly enjoy the mono better. I use a Diawa Regal and it casts a mile. At least that setup works well for me...

I put K9 5# crappie braid on one of my reels recently, so far I really like it.

It actually depends on how I'm fishing. For long cast and retrieve braid is a little better, unless it decides to do a dance on your rod tip. for dock shooting, shallow jigging and pitching the mono seems to work good for me. I have a few rods with both lines, just have a hard time making up my mind lol.

I know you were asking Wayne p, but I didn’t see him reply yet. For Crappie, I have been using a fluorocarbon leader when using braid.

I like 8lb spiderwire stealth to a 4-6lb fluoro leader on my braid rods. I dont like braid for casting jigs, it seems to stick a tiny bit in the spool after a fish/snag and cause accuracy issues with light jigs. I prefer good ol 4lb mono on my casting rods (6'9-7' UL). Braid works fine for dippin and vertical jigging close to boat, and that is where i like it.

I hve 3 of the above mentioned rods. I run Shimano Sedona 1000’s on all 3. I also run Trilene XL 4lb on them. I buy this line by 3000yd spool on Ebay. I despise the ‘mini’ reels with smaller spools. Put too much memory in the line. For the price point, the Sedona’s are hard to beat. Just don’t see where I need $200 reel to catch Crappie
