Apparently he's a cheat. What's worse, when he was caught, he didn't simply shut his mouth, he went on the attack, which I find to be deplorable. Bad enough to cheat to claim a state record, but when caught to lie about others and attack folks who are doing their job is just low class.

The bait shop owner said he grew curious when he found the fish he weighed at 3.73 pounds was cited as a record weighing 4.07 pounds.

“Now, that’s a discrepancy,” he said.

I think it was the ball bearings found during the X-Ray

Did you read it? He took it to a sporting goods store, where it weighed 3.73 pounds. The operator of the sporting goods store didn't do the paperwork for a state record, because he knew that it wasn't a state record. The angler also knew this and didn't ask for any sort of certification of the scale or the numbers of the scale. The angler later applied for a state record with the same fish which then weighed over 4 pounds. The DNR (or whatever the agency is called in Kansas) got a statement from an informant (possibly the sporting goods store owner or possibly a friend/acquaintance of the angler, the article doesn't say) that the angler was lying and that the fish "grew" after being caught. When they seized the fish from the angler, they found two steel ball bearings in its gut (which obviously weren't ingested by the fish when it was alive or it would have weighed over 4 pounds THE FIRST TIME that it was weighed. He cheated, plain and simple, then he had the nerve to attack the people who caught him doing it. Nothing worse than a lying cheater.

I only seen it was a 4 lb fish and certified and then not , but never saw why it was uncertified ,it was a while back on somewhere else when I seen it , the article I saw said the angle that ketched it was complaining about them doing him wrong on it ....
