Default B&M tree thumper 10' rod question

Just picked one of these up from Academy on sale. I'm new to tree dipping. I have heard I should be using hivis line so I can see bites. What line brand / lb test / type do y'all use for tree dippin? Single or double jig? I fish Kansas lakes. Hillsdale and Clinton mostly. Thanks.

Hi-vis line was made more popular back when casting a jig and letting it fall back to you, or slowly reeling it in on semi-slack line, because it was easier to see any "tic" or "jump" in the line. Clear or Clear/Blu mono was/is much harder to see in those circumstances. In the case of vertical jigging or "tree dipping" I'm not so sure it'll be of the same benefit ... but, it probably won't be of any detriment to that method of fishing. In that type of vertical presentation, you're most likely to get one of four types of bites. Most often would be the "thump". You might also have the feeling of weight when rod is lifted or notice the line moving off horizontally in one direction or another. Then there's the "slack line" situation, where you're slowly reeling or lifting the jig upwards or even holding it steady & all of a sudden the line goes slack (my personal fav). In any of those instances, a quick hookset will usually result in a hooked fish. I've done very little "tree dipping" or vertical jigging ... but, those four types of bites have been typical, and most of the time resulted in a fish on the line. And in those circumstances, the color of my line was not a contributing factor.

I like my Tree Thumper a lot. Had it a few years now. Tough and sensitive. As far as the line, I don't see much difference between hi vis and clear, straight line jigging is more by feel than seeing the line move. I see the clear just fine tho.

What kind of line do you use? What pound test?
