How often after a couple hours you throw in the towel?

The older I get the more I enjoy my time on the water, catching or not. I like to keep searching and trying different techniques. Watching eagles and loons sure help the time pass.

Persistence. I will stay and keep trying. Move areas if I can access the water, Till I get my boat going, I'm on the bank. So if I can access the water, I'll fish it.

Depends on if I have my boat out or I’m on shore. High today is 31. Boat is still in winter storage. Not bank fishing in these temps. I’m like zekepa. I stay at home.

I only quit when I run out of time for the most part. When I go out I know when I need to get back. But I don't give up just because I'm not catching. Sometimes I have to give up even if I am catching.

There are 2 approaches to fishing with live scope (in my opinion) Search through your baits until you find the right bait for the fish you see. Search through the fish until you find the right fish to bite the bait you have tied on. They both seem to work equally well for me. Personally, I'm like the OP and prefer to search for active fish with the bait I have on.

My dad used to say - let’s keep fishing , they’ll start biting when they get hungry.
Days that are slow, especially when there’s a north wind behind a front and the moon comes up, or I notice a drop in the water level I head back in.

I see/hear of alot of folks that goes to the same ramps, ties on the same jigs, and do the same things every time they go fishing. And after they get thru fishing all I hear is "the fish didnt bite". Well, I'm definitely one that doesnt throw in the towel until I've tried about everywhere and everything I can to get fish to bite. If I'm fishing and see the fish on sonar but they wont bite I wont stay there the whole time I fish Instead I spend my morning looking for fish that will bite. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt but when I leave the lake atleast I can say I tried. My usual trips are generally 4 or 5 hours of fishing. Then I head home to do something else.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve smelled a skunk.
I’d fish every day if I could but I’m a 4 hour guy. Good or bad, 4hrs is usually enough for me.

Only time I quit early is when it's cold and windy and hands are too numb to tie on a jig. Happened once this year and fish were biting, hands were so cold they ached for a couple hours after I stopped fishing.

I'm retired now and seasonally (December 1-April 30) I live practically on a nice lake, so I have the wonderful benefit of fishing for a couple of hours anytime I'd like or staying out for a longer day if the weather's perfect and the fish are cooperating. Oddly, I'm having a rather tough/bad year so far for Crappie (I'm finding more fish, but catching fewer and smaller fish than in years past), so I've had quite a few days where I fished for a bit, scouted for a bit and still got off the lake after only 2.5-3 hours. It's not that I have that much pressing stuff waiting for me at home, but my wife still works during the day and I typically try to get home on those days and see if there's anything that she'd like me to do or, if not, I'll read a book, play with the dog or take her for a run (the dog, not my wife) or other useless, but fun stuff. Did I mention that retirement is OK?
