I'm no pro and would like to believe that the 4lb Stren I'm using actually snaps at around 4 pounds; I've never tried to confirm it in any way. If the same strength is thinner in the Varivas line, that is fine and dandy. Lots of give with the rods I use and the assumed stretch of my current mono absorbs the hook sets to where I've never broken off on the hook set. During the fight, yes but I have no way of knowing whether or not the line just snapped or got bit off by a toothy critter.
Your Stren 4 pound is breaking at 6 pounds. Here is a chart that shows diameter of braid and mono lines and their breaking strength. This under rating of lines started around the 70’s and it was because of bass fisherman. In the US market you will need to look at the diameter of the line to figure out its actual breaking strength as the pound rating is almost always not true. There are a few US market lines that rate line correctly, but very few.

Here's a short list of VARIVAS nylon mono lines (in clear or stealthy color) to take a look at --

    - Twitch Master VLS (very low stretch) nylon mono line (champagne gold color)
    - Super Trout Advance nylon mono (translucent brown color)
    - VARIVAS Trout Nylon (in clear or orange-red) mono line

IMHO, it's easy to get lost on Varivas website when looking at line for crappie fishing. I understand they are based in Japan and American pan fishing is a small portion of their market.

Your feedback is much appreciated. We definitely hear ya and have plans in the works for website improvements, especially navigation improvements. For lines for crappie or pan fishing, I recommend taking a look at the ultralight offerings in the VARIVAS Super Trout Advance and AREA series.

I too get lost on their website. I am sure it is good line but I find it difficult to choose which one.
