    Default Wolves and sheep

There tends to be wolves and sheep in the society we live in, the sheep far outnumber the wolves as you might have imagined.
this subject in turn reminds me every year of the sheep , the sheep are typically those that have this idea that scientifically certain things are impossible.
While the wolves simply think it is all about the food chain and how it effects their next meal.
So here we go with my EVERY year tutorial on the silly notion that crappie will not spawn until water temperature hits a certain number scientist's say has to happen before the spawn is a success.
Lets take Canada as a first example of this subject , the water temperatures only reach a maximum in the late summer of around 64 to 65 , but yet there are herds of folks that say that is too cold for a decent spawn. The crappie in Cananda from what I have researched go to the beds at ice out when the water temperature is in the 40 range during the spring there . Yet they still survive every year and spawn ...
So here in lies the issue with the they can't or won't do this or that in the spring. Crappie from my observations only need a tiny window of time to do the deed and do it more than once in most places. In some spots we see a quick burst of shoreline fish for a day and then gone for weeks , then it happens again and then again as well in those same locations.
In this scenario the water temp. ranges vary greatly and yet this occurs EVERY year in those same locations . There is often a 25 degree or more difference in the water temps in those locations over a period of several months .
Remember this about that , those same sheep sit around EVERY year promoting the water is TOO cold for the crappie to rush the bank and those same folks EVERY year cry about a bad spawn and or they missed it .
Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers here for sure , but to be just as sure, read what you want and think what you want , but in the end the sheep are not the best of predators ......
I know I know , he never won no big awards or trophy and has no clue and is just some yeehaw thinking he knows this about that and in many of the sheep minds this is in fact factual .....
nonetheless we have had 4 or 5 days or really nice sunshine and even though the water temps. are WAY to cold for a spawn according to the sheep, this afternoon lil ole wolf like me is going to look for some of those seasoned like me big ones that ain't going to wait for it to happen .....just saying
education time over , and as the loser quarter back would say ....
    here we go .....
p.s. on a final note , the male fish DO NOT have to be wearing a tux to the deed either ....

Going out this morning searching for some slabs. Hoping I'm a wolf, if I stick a few slabs I might do some howling. You never know unless you go. Water is still very cold so slow is the way to go.

In a very broad and unscientific study, it has been found the majority of crappie caught between January 1 and December 31 each year are caught when someone is fishing.
    The numbers don't lie!

I'm fishing all winter, this year, for my first time. Prior to retirement I simply did not have the time to fish as much as I wanted. This winter, I've been dock fishing in a public covered heated dock. Water temp is right around freezing. Crappie are 10 ft down in 20-25 ft of water. Looking forward to spring. Once shallow water temps approach upper 40's I'll start fishing shallow end of lakes fed by creeks

there is a notion that drives most of it , much like the rut with deer , temperatures do not effect the deer breeding cycles either ....

IMO, the spawn occurs when “the planets align “. It’s just a saying…. Actually I’m glad most people get it all confused. Leaves more fish for me in the skinny water.
And I really get a kick out of trolling by a live scope user in the channel complaining about not being able to get them to bite when I have a box full of tux wearing males.

translated simply is this , not all fish go to the bank in March and April , some of the seasoned pro fish know the deal from previous trysts in short water and look for them real small windows , 4 or 5 days of serious sun in some spots and lengths of days growing urge them into the bank sooner than the general masses.
that coupled with a knowledge of certain water bodies can sure enough put you right in a mess of large fish ...
