    Default Can we talk?

Golly I need to go fishing.

I’m married to a wonderful women. But I know she is tired of kitchen table covered in jigs, grubs and fishing line. And she plays along nicely when I ask her to hold a spool. I love her.

But she is not really enjoying this new, 3 piece 18’ rod that I keep assembling in the living room. She has much patience, but I believe it she get tapped with it one more time the rod will quickly be less than 18’.

Thd last two weeks of very high water is frustrating. So just to recap:

    Wife good.
    Toys everywhere
    Limits stretched.

Forecast looks warmer but more precipitation. Ugh!

I will sa…….oh look that’s where I put that pack of mo-glow baits!!!

Do any of y’all remember where I put that little UV flashlight I bought?

I'm no expert in marriage advice. But i'm married to a similar woman who, bless her heart, puts up with all my crap.

That said, in the interest of keeping the peace.....PLAY WITH YOUR ROD OUTSIDE!

It's gotta be hard to gracefully play with a new 18' rod in the house.
Maybe you need to go find a pond and test that out.
We have four days of rain predicted starting today. My home lake is 7.5 feet low but I may go chance it after the rain stops.

And my wife is tired of hearing me practice turkey calling already. She may consider trading if your wife is interested...

I too married a very understanding woman who tolerates my many hobbies. However, I keep all of my toys in my shop that is 100 yards from the house.

I'll tell you where your flashlight is if you'll tell me where my 10mm socket is!

I know all of us, or maybe I should say some of us, have understanding wives when it comes to fishing. Can we talk? But I got to tell you I think I won the lottery. Decided at age 71 I wanted to up and move to Arkansas to be able to trout fish as I liked. She said let’s do it. When talking about new home she says we need a shop for your boat and fishing gear. Sold my boat when I left TN and after getting here got to thinking maybe I was too old to buy another boat and I would just hire a guide when I wanted to hit the river. Was driving around one day and she up and says let’s go get you a boat. And she made it clear to get it like I wanted it, which is what I did. Was fishing this past July up on the White River with my nephew. We were casting D2 jigs and I knew the rods I owned were not the best for that method. While I caught a lot of fish I missed a lot of fish. Needed a fast action ML rod for 1/8 D2 and a fast action L rod for the 1/16 D2 jig. When she picked me up at the ramp she asked how my day was. Told her I caught fish but the rods I own are not really for casting those jigs. All I owned at the time were UL rods. She says you need to order what you need. Ordered those 2 rods that night out of Japan. I could go on and on but I think one gets the idea. So those of us who have wives that support our hobbies is great. All men are not as fortunate. I’ve seen wives of friends of mine who were jealous because their husbands fished, and it caused some of them to give it up. I feel like I’m the most blessed man in the world.

    Regards

That’s called cabin fever, and I’m one of the worst. Pack her up and take her to dinner. Remind her of 90 days. Every season is only that long and times and weather will change soon.

Pretty sure my wife will kill me if I break out one more turkey call in the house. She claims she's heard enough of that noise, but somehow, she never complains with a mouthful of fresh wild turkey meat. She has helped me gain access to 2 horse farms where nobody else hunts. So, there's that. Guess I'll practice in the truck when I'm on the road for work and not rock the boat.

She prefers the taste of saltwater fish over fresh, though she understands and respects my fishing time. She also has no room to complain about the cost of any of my hunting or fishing gear, because nothing about horses is cheap and everything they do requires money.

    Jim
