My 16' aluminum has a ladder from the factory. Of note though, the boat manufacturer also installed a looped hand hold in strategic spot that makes a huge difference when pulling my way up the ladder from the water and transitioning into the boat...

This is what I would do. I don't like the looks or placement of most mounted ladders. There is one that mounts to the the jackplate that I've considered but dang they're high for a piece of metal. Thought about a portable one just to hang over the side when it's cold but doubt I'd ever put it in or remember to take it.

I seen a homemade rope emergency ladder you just toss over the side but can't find it. Maybe if I can find it again I might try that as a back up to the motor?

    Found it.

Yes I do and love it! Great idea to try it out!! My boat didn’t have one so my grandfather and I built a platform for it. Works like a charm and family and I love it. It’s the only boat and nice to use when it is warm haha!

I fell out of my Bass tracker 30 years ago and had no problem getting back in the boat. I fell in last year while trying to squeeze my Ranger RT 188 between two trees. Getting back in was a lot more difficult this time. I ordered a ladder from Ranger the nest day and installed it on the transom. I tested it on the driveway and then added a gate handle on the rear deck for more leverage getting back in the boat. I fish alone most of the time. If your boat does not have a ladder, my recommendation would be to install one and be sure it works, especially if you fish alone.

The boat I got last year does have a ladder but I honestly haven't tried it out. Certainly, will though. Good reminder that I'm not as young as I once was.

I had mine added at the dealership when I bought my boat. Works well, and is indeed a lifesaver.

What's the brand of that Special K ? Looks to be easier than most with the curved handles. Scott
