    Default Extra Line Storage

I've been fishing for bass and catfish for years, but was given a jigging rod as a gift and took it out over the holiday break. It rekindled my first childhood fishing love; catching and fighting big crappie and panfish on a cane pole. The part of bass fishing I dread is organizing and choosing all the tackle, rods, and reels to get the boat ready for a day on the lake. Instead, I set up a 3700 size waterproof case with all my crappie/panfish tackle and just walk the bank around bridges and riprap with two telescopic cane poles and my jigging rod having a blast. However, I haven't found a good way to carry some extra line for the cane poles in the box, as I get line in large spools and only need to have 30 yards or so to re-rig. Got any compact ideas to keep a little line on hand?

If you can get one of the small rolls of line you could just put it in your pocket. Or maybe tie it on your belt loop.

When I used telescopic poles I put braid on them and tied on a short mono leader (<10"). Braid was 17# and the mono leaders were 8# ... probably "overkill", but I was a newbie at using those types of poles at that time.

My braid was put on as such .... I wrapped about 5-6' around the butt end and taped it, then spiral wrapped the length of the rod ... wrapped the braid thru the tip eye about 4 times and left a length of line equal to the length of the rod (including leader). Again, overkill, as I never broke or cut any of the braid.

But, what I'm thinking is .... in your case, if you're using mono on your poles, you could do the same procedure and have spare line immediately available (wrapped around the butt ends of your poles). OR, you could use a larger #test line on the poles & a lighter #test leader, so that the leader would be the most likely place for a break-off. And if the line on your jigging pole reel is a lighter #test than the line on your telescopics, then you already have "extra" line for making leaders.

Buy you a thing of dental floss and remove the floss (we all know you ain't gonna use it! LOL!), and reline with your mono.

I don't see the need for three rods if your fishing from the bank. It only makes sense if your setting up to fish in one spot. You don't need much line for those poles. I would just put a spool in my pocket.

Get you a 100 yard spool and put a rubber band over the spool of line and stick it in your pocket.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
