Default Running terrova with broken lift assist spring?

Replaced tube liner on terrova & of course spring got away from me & went berzerk. I see where some say they removed lift assist but i assume they're just not replacing the spring & tightening depth collar after turning the motor head to lock the steering in place ain't they? Thanks

I believe that will work. I always turn the head to engage the drive anyway.

Jack thanks. I usually turn the head to lock into position too.

Maybe use a ram mount designed to hold the trolling motor down.

Just have to tighten depth collar down. I ordered a new lift assist but i also ordered a 31.8MM angle adjustable mountain bike handle bar stem to put right below the head of the terrova to use as a lift assist handle incase it ever breaks again. The spring was my fault but have read where it happens more often than you'd think it would so i'll be prepared when or if it does.
