Genecticly predisposed to make a bigger fillet
Not sure , but I think this about that .....
some of those "hump" back crappie we see from time to time might be ......
caused by genetics ,rather than some of the other reasons I have read that cause it .
Case in point , one location I hit from time to time produces many more of them than any other spot I know of . That coupled with the fact that they are in a private lake tends to make me think someone been tossing back the ugly ones and keeping the pretty ones , thus causing the malformation to be enhanced in numbers , just saying.
Out of 20 or so I ketched at lunch time on "hump day" about 4 or so at high noon were in that category of the severe spinal curvature range.
always wondered what caused it and am beginning to think it is mostly genetics.
and of course KABOOM is the word ...
found them in about 5 ft of muddy water on a wind blown bank
3 foot under a float in some light brush I saw when that lake was VERY low ....
Thought I was gunna waste time that visit , not a peck on the crappie dock
decided to give it a second chance on the other end of the lake
was nicley surprised for sure , there were other fish with them down there as well .
missed a few , ketched a few and off to other agendas was me ....
my plan was 3 different lakes yesterday and I only had time for one ......
thought about keeping some , said thought about it .....
