Default I Figured Out the Saltwater Crappie

I didn't get out till 12pm. I had to go tend to the trailer tires for the boat I was working on. It went to the shop this evening but I noticed the tires very low on my way out yesterday. Had to do that and a few other things before heading to Jourdan River to put my thinking cap on and figure the Crappie out. I kept going till I could taste little Saltwater but I could still taste it where I started sticking steel to Crappie. It took a hour to figure them out but once I did quite a few went airborne and landed in the bottom of the boat. I was armed with my 14ft Wally Marshall Signature Series jig pole, had a big reel on to balance with Wally Marshall Mr Crappie Camo 10# monofilament. I pour 1/16oz round Jigheads with #6 Matzou Sickle Hooks. Like Ketchn says those #6 Hooks catch. Well the Release well too.

These are just some of the fish that dropped in the boat. Numerous shorts just kept going out in the river behind me. I had them Dialed In. I first rigged that Wally Marshall Lews Rod for pulling Pigs out of heavy cover but it worked perfectly keeping the hooked fish from Spooking the rest today.

Get a look at the Skunk Removal fish. This was the first 2 fish in the boat. I was not discouraged but feeling I may have made a bad choice going where I did. Not 500ft from where these two were hooked I got into the first of 3 schools of Crappie. I had to use a long pole. I tried to use my 8WT fly rods (I keep and fish with 2 at a time) but the boat was too close and spooking the Crappie in the Ultra Clear Water. Winter colors are already Hot, Monkeymilk, Hologram Ghost, Blue Ice, Red Thunder. I tried larger hooks and bodies but the bites would stop.

I was already 4 over the Limit when I stopped to count so 4 went back in the water. 3 Hours of fishing to boat, float, or launch Crappie behind me back into the river. At least 75 crappie was caught and a few Bass & 'Gills.

    Thanks for carrying us along.
Picturing you tasting the water for salt brings a good old joke to mind. Did you ever hear about the old sailor who back in the day, could taste the sediment stuck to the sounding weight and tell you EXACTLY where you were - kind of early gps. Ever hear that one?
