I used an app years ago that kept a tally.

LOL !!! Yeah, I've got one or two in the storage compartment of my boat .... and they're still in their packages, unopened.
I didn't buy them, they were gifts. Probably been in the boat 6-8-10 years
Been many a year since I've even felt the need (or reason) to have anything to keep count. And nowadays I'm not even sure I'd remember to count them

I keep a couple in the boat, though its been awhile since I limited. I do use them though, and I’m superstitious about how and when they get reset to 0. Only on the next trip, when the first fish hits the deck it gets reset. Also have a series of ritual phrases I say for the first, second, and third fish that comes over the rail

Absolutely. I use this type.

Used it on Lake Erie for counting yellow perch to make sure we do not go over the limit. After the perch population crashed in 2015 and I switched to mainly crappie fishing, I use it to keep count of crappie caught. July and August it is a must have. I think the highest we had this year was 208 in July.
I started carrying one just for the heck of it late this summer. We have no limits to worry about here in CT concerning panfish, it's just to satisfy my own curiosity. And I don't judge the success of my trip based on the numbers showing on the darn thing.
