Default Placement of the Garmin 126sv on my small pontoon

    Hello my fellow fisherman,

As a beginner wanna be Crappie fisherman (A Rookie) I have a bit of dilemma, I need input on where I should place a Garmin 126sv on my small pontoon. I do know that I want to place my Livescope LVS34 on a separate pole mount on the corner next to the R/H seat. The other Garmin 126sv will be placed on the center console. Take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Any input would be appreciated. Also, I do plan on fishing front (bow).

Also, what length poles would be good.

I would definitely mount it on the bow and would look at rail mounting options. If you’re not averse to mounting to the deck there are many options available. Cornfield Crappie makes some great mounts.

I agree with BC it needs to be where you can see both the screen and your rod.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here & say :

I'd mount the 126 on the console & its tdx on the back end of the R/H pontoon. But I'd get a 93sv & LVS32 tdx for the front, and dedicate it solely to Livescope fishing. (Note: you can mark waypoints on the 93sv & switch screens) I say a 93/32 combo for the simple reason of "space" (screen) to fish around, and the LVS34 is only better for clearer screen images at greater distances (according to what I've read). That would also let you mount the 93 right in front of your seat, on the railing just to the left of your corner drink holder. You could mount your tdx pole on the right side of the corner drink holder.

Length of rods will be determined by what methods you intend to be using. 10-12' rods for "flippin" jigs w/Livescope --- 14-16' rods for Spider Rigging. BUT, if you do intend to do a lot of Spider Rigging, you may have to mount the Garmin unit on a drop down mount or a very short mount on the lower rail in front of your seat. But, also ... if you're gonna be Spider Rigging, you would need a 2-4 rod holder setup ... something like the Hi Tek Pontoon mount holder Elite V2 (two rods) or V4 (four rods).

Just FYI .... I'm thinking in terms of just you fishing, alone. (and also that you haven't already purchased those units)

Thanks for that input, I met an angler that recommended the same setup and saying that 2 each 126 over kill for boat size and crappie fishing for what I truly needed and it would save a tremendous amount of cash.

Do you think the 106sv vs 93sv would be to big for the front?

That would depend on "where" you intend to mount it. IMHO

What you can do is find the dimensions of the two (not just the screen diagonal length) and cut out paper or cardboard & put each of them in the place where you intend to mount the unit. Then figure out if the 106 is going to be "in your way" or be blocking your fishing/casting lane.
That's kinda what I did when I mounted my two Hi-Tek 4rod holders (before I drilled any holes). I wanted them to be within fairly easy reach, but not have to be dismantled so I could drop/retrieve the trolling motor. (the fact that the Hi-Tek holders don't stick out on both sides of the crossbar was also taken into consideration of purchase) It's just a little tweak to the old adage of "measure twice - cut once".

Like that lil toon for a fishing platform. Good luck in getting it rigged out in a practical way.
