Good times
We got 9.65 inches of rain here in 3 days ! Lakes are full and the rivers ran wild . Muddy ,cold water syndrome is the problem in some cases for some anglers. This tremendous fluctuation on water depth in a few days makes crappie chasing rather tough at times.
Thought its 37 this morning and the wind out of the north is gusting to 29 mph !
Not boating conditions for sure , BUT who needs a boat anyway .....
Strolled out on my favorite lunch break dock with my crappie.com hoodie on and the hood down . Did not keep the hood down long FOR SURE ! ....
Fish went from fall to full winter mode just like that ! The real problem with this scenario is holding still enough to get bit in that kinda of a wind condition . Winter fish in these parts often require a "dead stick" approach and those with LS fully understand after watching them in winter mode .
The slightest of twitches will send them off to parts unknown like they are on fire in cold water , if it don't move though , they will FLAT out POUND the daylights out of it !
Water was up about 2 feet deeper than the last visit and the fish were on cover and the bottom really tight . Went in with a super bright orange and yellow big bait and worked them over until my hands didn't like it anymore and it was time to go deal with my work agenda .
Sometimes it is what it is and to be very sure if you are winter creek crappie person , you NEED to go on a walk up the creek soon , the fish ran with the bait and to be very sure the creeks will be full of them as of NOW!
A huge raft of cormorants, pelicans ,seagulls and herons were pursuing the baitfish north towards the creek when I got there .
KABOOM is the word btw ....
p.s. and heck no I didn't keep none of em ....

they are pretty worthless most of the time , very thin hollow body , designed for BIG collared jigheads , if threaded just so so , will work though on a no collar jighead.
they do have an enticing undulating appearance that looks pretty sweet in the water and after a dozen or so they are done .....
