I am sure the live fire would be an awesome display. Nice catches
Bon Temps was at the launch when I pulled in. We did the greet, grabbed his jig poles, dropped the boat in, and parked the Fishin' Expedition. We headed North in the East Pearl River towards Stennis Space Center (where they test the booster rockets among other engines) running by a couple of Big Wig's homes on site. After the second house there is a 3 way, to the hard right is Mikes River, to the right is a slough, and to the left is the continuation of the East Pearl. I told Bon Temps the Seals have not been out training and we should be good on a Friday. Well Wrong! We cruised up Mikes river to a good looking little Oxbow. We shutdown, started the Sidescan sonar to take a peak at the bottom all the way across and a boat pulls up right when we were getting ready to make the first Jig drop. 2 Guys are wearing fatigue pants, OD shirts, no radios that I could see. They said we had to leave, the Seals were late today but the Live Fire was fixing to start! We are in the line of fire. I told the Guys well the Navy usually posted a boat in the river to let us know, they responded; We Are That Boat. You Have to Leave Now! We have drought, saltwater, herbicide spraying, and now Gun Fire to deal with Crappie fishing. We decided to fish a bayou on the way out that was out of the Firing Range catching quite a few Crappie but few that I would keep. We left with about 10 keepers between us and headed up the Wastehouse to compete with the Bull Sharks for keeper Crappie. All the Slabs we caught were buried way deep in heavy cover right against the bank but we did Catch! Here's a cooler shot before I added ice.
Bon Temps came under equipped. I showed little mercy as I'm trying to teach my buddy how to Crappie Catch not just Crappie Fish. No Shiners were injured during this event, all jigs, natural colors.
I am sure the live fire would be an awesome display. Nice catches

Congrats on a nice cooler, and not being part of that live fire exercise. Kinda hard to catch crappie and dodge bullets and such at the same time, lol.
Proud to have served with and supported the Units I was in: 1st IDF, 9th INF, 558th USAAG (Greece), 7th Transportation Brigade, 6th MEDSOM (Korea), III Corp, 8th IDF, 3rd Armor Div.

I had my wife in the boat one evening Crappie fishing when the Seals rounded the curve with a Mini Gun lit up with blanks. Fire was flying out the barrels at least 6ft. We heard them coming but the Fire Show was over the Top Good. Lately they have not been running the river below Stennis but you can here them up river most of the time. Trees are cut off about barrel high up river. The gun is a beast. You will hear individual reports then they must flip a switch or something as it fires so fast it's just one long rifle report.

I landed on Okinawa once, looking for parts for our helicopters. The SEALS there looked more like surfers and divers than BA warriors.Live fire with a mini gun sounds like a great experience especially mixed in with some crappie catching!
