Default Fin Spins and Fin Spin Pro

Just wondering if anyone fishes the Fin Spins/Fin Spin Pros by Crappie Magnet. Any success or failures or if you could share techniques and situations that they worked best in. Thanks in advance!

I field tested them when they came out and fished with them for a while. For a number of years I have been an avid UL angler and the larger ones were not suited to my gear. Some of the prototypes were 1/32 with a #6 hook…right up my alley. Caught a lot of fish with those and fished them until they were all gone. They still make a 1/32 but it is with a #4 hook. I usually fish hooks in the 6-8 size range. I fished the larger sizes a few times mated up with the Slab Curly. Caught a lot of fish on those also. That setup seemed to attract larger fish. I had one rod left that I could use the 1/8 and 1/4 ounce. They are a very good bait, and if I was using larger tackle they would still be in my inventory.

    Regards

I have pulled them on planer boards in spring. They work well

They work good. I have also done like Richard Gene the Fishing Machine and cut them down to make a lighter weight underspin.

IMO The original was a very poor design. The taper would not let plastic bodies stay in place.
    I was disappointed

This is why I stuck to the road runners. I like the profile of the fin spin better, but it’s a lot faster for me to rig up a jig head I don’t have to immediately modify.

I also believe that the Road Runners with the painted barrels are lower quality than the ones with a plain brass barrel.

lot's of folks make really good underspins , never tried those but to be very sure some of the best get no press
limits tackle makes some that I really like , most of the versions I have used over the years have a tendency to twist in propeller fashion if you speed them up just a bit past really slow , that is unbecoming and really undesirable unless you are after silver salmon of the coast of alaska .....

Thanks for all of the comments. I too have found that the Crappie Magnet bodies don’t stay on very well and that is why I like the Pro Spins with the hand tied skirts better. Plus they look really good too.
