    Default Battery chargers

Are on board battery chargers for flooded batteries worth it?

Mine sure is handy. Plug it in when I unhook and let it take of them all at once.

They're great if you have a digital one that will charge the batteries up and then go into maintenance mode .... if you plan on keeping them attached between trips. Some older ones (like my MK220) are simply regular battery chargers designed to fit "on board" spaces, rather than be a "extra" piece of equipment you take along with you on trips where you're going to be there long enough to have to recharge the batteries at some point in the trip. "Those ones" are not recommended to be left on & charging for days/weeks.

In any case, you still have to do a routine check of the fluid level to insure you aren't boiling away your acid & exposing the lead plates. And as is always recommended ... charge the battery first, & THEN add distilled water (if needed).

If you have more than one battery, IMO, yes. I have a Minn Kota 315D in my boat and it's been flawless.

A friend in fishing gear sales profession highly recommends the NOCO brand on-board chargers. Has all the good features and a great reputation.

It's the first thing I buy when I get a boat. It is a simple routine for me. Unlatch the boat, plug in the charger and put cover on boat.

I’ve had them in several boats and my current boat only has one battery. The confidence of knowing that my battery is waiting at 100% is the best. Mine is a noco genius with maintenance capabilities.
