    Default Winter Gear / Clothing

This will be my first year fall / winter / spring fishing crappie on a boat and was looking for suggestions on clothing and other related gear. I live in KY if that helps.

    Thanks,
    Nate

Nothing wrecks a trip more then being cold or wet. Fishing here in Michigan I have two sets of rain/wind gear. Good pair of gortex type bibs and jacket that I can layer under for fall and spring. I also have a ice fishing/flotation suit for the really cold times that can be layered under. The layering allows you to adjust thru the day. I'm guessing for Kentucky you might only need a good gortex type suit. I wear my stuff even when it's not raining and just windy and cold as it really cuts the wind. Recently I added a pair of rechargeable hand warmers I keep in chest pocket. Gets hands warm after getting wet unhooking fish or baiting and provides a little core warmth.

I second the gortex! Insulated bibs work well too. Just make sure you wear your life preserver at all times cause if you fall in the extra clothes get heavy real fast.

Insulated bibs, Guidewear jacket (cuts the wind) & layers underneath is my typical attire.

I bought two pair of cheap insulated bibs from Academy sports a around 10 years ago and they work great. I think they were made for snow skiers which is the reason I got them so cheap (i'm in Texas). I typically wear them with a hoodie in the fall and insulated coat in the winter. I don't get on the water if it is below freezing. Like stated always wear your life jacket and carry a change of clothes with you.

Bibs and a winter rain parka as they call it from Academy. Been out fishing when it was cold enough the braid flash froze as it came out of the water. Was plenty warm everywhere but my hands. Simply can't shoot docks with gloves on. Just a side note can't shoot docks with frozen braid either

Bibs and carhart for me mostly. What I have the hardest time with is the legs riding up when I sit and the cold wind getting up my legs. I might need a longer pair but you get the point.
